The morning started off magically! The sun was rising, the birds were singing, the Mash temp. stayed consistent and lautering went very well. Our recipe called for a high gravity ultra hopped 60 minute IPA using exclusively Chinook hops. The problem came when I was supposed to add 2 oz. of Chinook hops at the beginning of the boil. So like always I reached into my refridgerator and reached into my hop bucket and pulled out 2 packages of hops and proceeded to add them to the boil. However by the time I was ready to add another pack at 30 minutes I noticed that I still had 3 packs of Chinook hops and the 2 packages of Cluster hops I had reserved for another brew were gone. NOOOOOOOOOO!! Looking into the trash can my nightmare scenario was confirmed. Of course after the thought of me shutting off the flame and dumping 6 gallons of boiling wort onto my front yard through a fit of rage passed, I stayed the course and added the Chinook while hopping for the best. Because this brew day came dangerously close to a disaster, I decided to call it Cluster Duck. Sometimes an artist is able to create some of their best stuff through accidents. Let's hope this is one of those masterpieces. We'll know in 1 month.
Prost!
