With a Packer victory came the victorious results of the Leftoverture - Stale Ale taste test. This i'm happy to announce is the brew Wiegert Brewing made using leftover hops and 2 year old yeast was a complete and non-flushing success! I put 6 bottles outside at 10:30 am with the air temp at 18F to chill before a noon Packer game kickoff. As the first quarter of the game wound down I grabbed my first beer, opened and poured. Inside my 16 oz. glass was a 2 finger head with a nice light amber colored beer with a hint of the wonderful Chinook hops which seemed just a tad overtaken by the Kent Goldings Hops. This indeed was really no surprise. As expected my taste buds and saliva bank began to beg for their needed craft beer fix.
(PROST AND DOWN THE HATCH!)
WOW! The Leftoverture - Stale Ale had a moderate but nice Kent Goldings flavor intertwined with a pleasantly bitter patented Chinook citrus flavor. There was a nice hoppy back flavor with a really sweet pale malt finish. In the end I tasted no stale hop aromas or flavors and the middle aged yeasties did their job quite adequately! A big thumbs up!!
Prost!
